EIA April STEO: Hormuz Closure Drives Oil Shut-Ins to 9.1M b/d, Brent to Peak $115/b
The EIA's April Short-Term Energy Outlook forecasts that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz will force collective shut-ins of 9.1 million barrels per day (b/d) in April 2026 across Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, and Bahrain, up from 7.5 million b/d in March. Brent crude oil spot prices averaged $103/b in March, with EIA projecting a peak of $115/b in Q2 2026 before easing below $90/b by Q4 2026 and averaging $76/b in 2027. Retail gasoline prices are forecast to peak at close to $4.30 per gallon in April, while diesel prices peak above $5.80/gal.

Singapore and South America Reaffirm Bilateral Ties, Advance Carbon Credits and Agri-food Collaboration
Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu concluded a ten-day official visit to South America covering Peru, Paraguay, and Chile from 13 to 22 April 2026. The visit reaffirmed bilateral ties and advanced collaboration on carbon credits and agri-food trade between Singapore and the three South American nations. Singapore MAS Core Inflation 1.7% in March 2026
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) reported that MAS Core Inflation rose to 1.7% year-on-year in March 2026, up from 1.4% in February 2026, driven by increased retail and other goods and services inflation. On a month-on-month basis, core prices edged up by 0.1% in March. CPI-All Items inflation also picked up to 1.8% year-on-year from 1.2% in February, due to higher private transport and core inflation components.
