What changed

The Minnesota Department of Transportation announces a substantial infrastructure improvement project on Interstate 90 between Dakota and Nodine in Winona County. The project includes repaving 5 miles of westbound and 4.7 miles of eastbound I-90, replacing the westbound I-90 bridge over Winona County Road 101, replacing approach panels and bridge barrier guardrail connections on the westbound I-90 bridge over southbound Highway 61, installing new guardrail, improving drainage, and installing reinforcement and synthetic liner to reduce sinkhole risks associated with Karst geology. Lane closures began March 30 for preparation and will continue for resurfacing work through late fall, with eastbound lanes anticipated to reopen before westbound as work progresses.

Transportation companies and motorists who regularly use I-90 through Winona County should plan for extended lane closures and potential delays from May 4 through late fall. The closure of Winona County Road 101 for several months will require commercial vehicles and local traffic to follow the designated detour via Winona County Road 12 west at Dakota to Dakota Valley Drive east. Construction-related congestion may affect delivery schedules and route planning for freight operations in the region.
