US-12 Lane Restrictions April 13 for Tree Removal Near Powell
The Idaho Transportation Department announces tree removal work on U.S. Highway 12 near Powell from April 13 through mid-May 2026. Crews will reduce traffic to one lane using a pilot car system, causing 15-minute delays during working hours (Monday–Thursday, 6 a.m.–5 p.m.). Dead trees from mileposts 139 to 158 will be cleared to reduce falling hazards, slow wildfire spread, and improve wildlife visibility.
Chinden Boulevard Safety Upgrades, Feedback Deadline April 23
The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) invites public feedback on updated safety and drainage improvement concepts for Chinden Boulevard (US 20/26) through April 23, 2026. This is the second public feedback opportunity for the project, which addresses deficiencies in safety features and stormwater controls along the corridor.
Ada County Chinden DMV Walk-Ins Now Available
The Idaho Division of Motor Vehicles announced that the Ada County DMV at 9115 W. Chinden Blvd. in Garden City is now operating as a fully hybrid location, allowing customers to complete vehicle registration and driver's license services without an appointment. The office serves approximately 300 customers daily. This service model supports Ada County's high customer volume while improving convenience for the community.
ITD Calls on Idaho Drivers to Prioritize Safety in Work Zones
ITD is recognizing National Work Zone Awareness Week, April 20–24, 2026, with this year's theme 'Safe Actions Save Lives.' In 2024, Idaho recorded 904 work zone crashes including nine fatalities, resulting in nearly $188 million in economic impact. ITD has launched a weeklong video series featuring real stories from Idaho work zones and encourages all motorists to use Idaho 511, follow posted signs, and exercise patience.
Idaho DMV Releases New America 250 Specialty License Plate
The Idaho Division of Motor Vehicles has released a new America 250 specialty license plate commemorating the nation's 2026 semiquicentennial (250th anniversary). The plate features a red, white, and blue design and is available at county DMV offices and online. Standard vehicle registration fees apply, plus a specialty plate fee that supports the Idaho State Historical Society. The plate is available for passenger vehicles and motorhomes with optional personalization.
