Intelligence Briefing Trade & Sanctions US and EU Sanction Iran Weapons Programs Across...

DOS, OFAC target militia commanders, missile and UAV procurement networks, and Mahan Air.

The State Department, OFAC, and the European Union imposed sanctions on Iran-aligned militia commanders, missile and UAV procurement networks, and Mahan Air across four coordinated actions. The designations target multiple layers of Iran's weapons development infrastructure and include two blocked Mahan Air aircraft.

State Dept Sanctions 7 Iran-Backed Militia Commanders
The U.S. Department of State designated seven commanders of Iran-aligned terrorist militia groups under Executive Order 13224. The individuals lead Kata'ib Hizballah, Kata'ib Sayyid Al-Shuhada, Harakat Al-Nujaba, and Asa'ib Ahl Al-Haqq. These groups are designated as Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGT) and Foreign Terrorist Organizations. The action holds accountable those who have planned and directed attacks against U.S. personnel and interests in Iraq.

OFAC Sanctions Iranian Missile UAV Procurement Networks
OFAC designated 7 individuals and 4 entities operating Iranian missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) procurement networks under Executive Order 13224 (Counter Terrorism) and weapons of mass destruction nonproliferation authorities on April 21, 2026. The action targets procurement agents, trading companies, and aviation entities including Mahan Air-linked operators, with 2 Boeing 777-200ER aircraft operated by Mahan Air added to the SDN List. All property and interests in property of designated parties blocked.

US Sanctions Mahan Air, Others for Iran Weapons Programs
On April 21, 2026, the United States imposed sanctions on eight individuals and four entities operating multiple procurement networks supporting Iran's unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and ballistic missile programs, and U.S.-designated Mahan Air. Two aircraft were also identified as blocked property of Mahan Air, which has previously transported IRGC operatives, weapons, equipment, and funds. The action was taken pursuant to Executive Order 13382 targeting WMD proliferators and Executive Order 13224 targeting terrorist groups, under Operation Epic Fury and National Security Presidential Memorandum-2. U.S. persons and entities engaging with these designated parties must immediately freeze any blocked assets and refrain from transactions to avoid OFAC penalties.

EU Sanctions 8 Iran Entities, 1 Individual
The Council of the European Union has added 8 entities and 1 individual to the EU sanctions list under Council Decision 2010/413/CFSP and Council Regulation (EU) No 267/2012 concerning restrictive measures against Iran.
