Report on the Copyright Claims Board After Three Years of Operations, 1,700+ Claims
The U.S. Copyright Office has published a three-year report on the Copyright Claims Board (CCB), the small-claims tribunal established under the CASE Act of 2020. Since opening on June 16, 2022, the CCB has received over 1,700 claims from claimants nationwide and internationally. The report recommends legislative modifications to streamline and simplify the process, including adjustments to compliance review and service of requirements.
New Group Registration Option for 2D Artwork Now Available
The U.S. Copyright Office announced GR2D (Group Registration for Two-Dimensional Artwork), a new group registration option allowing artists to register between 2 and 20 published 2D artworks under a single filing fee. All works in a group must be published in the same calendar year. The option was created via a final rule issued December 19, 2025, and the application became available February 17, 2026.
Copyright Office Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Adjustments to Fee Schedule
The U.S. Copyright Office has published a notice of proposed rulemaking seeking public comment on adjustments to its fee schedule. The proposed changes aim to restore cost recovery closer to the historical level of approximately 60 percent, addressing significant cost increases since the last adjustment in 2020. Written comments must be submitted by May 4, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
