LICENSE “INVESTIGATION” SCAM ALERT
Wyoming physicians and physician assistants have been receiving scam
calls from an individual claiming to be with the “investigation unit” of the
Wyoming Board of Medicine. Sometimes the caller uses the name “Brian
Clark.” The caller ID information shows the Board of Medicine’s phone
number – 307-778-7053 – but this is “spoofed,” as the call is not really
from the Board, and there is no one named “Brian Clark” associated with
the Board in any way, shape or form.
The caller claims that the physician or physician assistant is under a
“confidential” investigation, and that illegal activities have been occurring.
The caller threatens action against the licensee’s license, along with publicly
exposing the alleged illegal conduct in the media. If staff members do not
immediately put the physician or PA on the line, he becomes very
aggressive. He claims that only one or two people at the Board of Medicine
office know about the investigation, so if the licensee contacts the Board
office directly, staff will not know anything about it.
These calls are a complete scam. If you or your staff receive a call like
this, please get the caller’s name, then call the Board of Medicine office at
307-778-7053. We will verify whether the caller is, in fact, affiliated with
the Wyoming Board of Medicine. In the highly unlikely situation that the
licensee is truly “under investigation” by the real Board of Medicine, we
will confirm that to the licensee.
If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Board of Medicine
office at 307-778-7053.
