Census Bureau to Pilot USPS for 2026 Census Test

The U.S. Census Bureau announced a pilot collaboration with the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) for its 2026 Census Test in Huntsville, Alabama and Spartanburg, South Carolina. Approximately 154,600 households will be invited to respond online starting May 1, 2026, with in-person enumeration from June 1 through August 31. The pilot will test using postal workers to collect responses from non-responding households as part of research informing potential nationwide implementation in the 2030 Census.

2025 Annual Survey of State Government Tax Collections Data Released

The U.S. Census Bureau released detailed data from its 2025 Annual Survey of State Government Tax Collections (STC), covering taxes imposed and collected by state governments and the District of Columbia. The data spans five broad tax categories and up to 25 subcategories. This information is used by Congress, federal agencies, state and local governments, educational and research organizations, and the public for tax policy analysis, gross domestic product estimates, and national income and product accounts.

2025 Public Employment and Payroll Data Released

The U.S. Census Bureau released new summary report and data tables for the 2025 Annual Survey of Public Employment & Payroll (ASPEP). The statistics provide comprehensive data on employment of the nation's state and local governments including full- and part-time employment, full-time equivalent employment, and gross monthly payroll statistics for March 2025 by governmental function. The release also includes revised tables for 2023 and 2024.
