Kemp Declares State of Emergency for Winter Storm Fern

Governor Brian P. Kemp declared a statewide State of Emergency effective January 22, 2026, through January 29, 2026, ahead of Winter Storm Fern. The order activates the State Operations Center and authorizes up to 500 Georgia National Guard troops for preparation, response, and recovery efforts. The declaration prohibits price gouging and suspends hours-of-service limitations for commercial vehicle operators involved in emergency response activities.

Georgia Declares State of Emergency Ahead of Winter Storm

Governor Brian P. Kemp declared a statewide State of Emergency in Georgia effective January 30, 2026, ahead of a winter storm expected to bring extreme cold, snowfall of 1-4 inches, and hazardous travel conditions through February 6. The order activates the State Operations Center at noon and includes provisions prohibiting price gouging, suspending hours-of-service limitations for commercial vehicle operators, and temporarily increasing weight, height, and length limits for vehicles transporting essential supplies.

Nearly $9.9M SLCGP Cybersecurity Grants Awarded to 44 Georgia Entities

The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) and Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) announced $9,873,903 in State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP) awards to 44 Georgia entities, with special consideration given to K-12 schools for FY23. Applications for FY24 SLCGP open April 1, 2026, and FY25 SLCGP open September 1, 2026.
