The U.S. Army Installation Management Command published a 60-day information collection notice under the Paperwork Reduction Act, seeking public comment on DD Form 1056 (Authorization to Apply for a No-Fee Passport and/or Request for Visa). The notice affects approximately 175,000 DoD civilians, military members, and their dependents who apply for official travel documents annually. Comments must be submitted by June 1, 2026.

What changed

The Department of the Army published a 60-day notice announcing a proposed information collection under OMB Control Number 0702-0134. The collection involves DD Form 1056, which gathers personally identifiable information from DoD personnel and their dependents applying for no-fee passports and visas for official travel. The agency estimates 175,000 annual respondents with a burden of 60 minutes per response, totaling 175,000 annual burden hours. The information will be shared with the Department of State and foreign embassies for document production.

No regulatory changes or new compliance obligations are created by this notice. Regulated entities—including DoD civilians, military members, and their dependents who may need no-fee passports—are not required to take any action in response to this notice. This is a standard Paperwork Reduction Act administrative procedure inviting public comment on an existing information collection instrument. The sole action required is for interested parties wishing to comment on the proposed collection to submit comments by the June 1, 2026 deadline.
