DFPI's April 2026 Monthly Bulletin covers licensee activity across California's financial services sector, including bank M&A (SMBC Manubank/Jenius Bank sale to Axos Bank), credit union mergers (North Bay CU with Corporate America Family CU), and new office openings by foreign banks. The bulletin marks CCFPL's five-year anniversary with $1.25M in restitution, 917 enforcement actions, and 9,522 complaints. A consumer alert warns of WhatsApp fraudsters impersonating licensed advisers using the SoFi Investment Group name.
WhatsApp Group Impersonating Licensed SoFi Investment Adviser
The California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation issued a consumer alert on March 9, 2026 warning that a WhatsApp group called "Sofi Investment Group" is falsely presenting itself as a licensed investment adviser and claiming affiliation with SoFi leadership. The DFPI confirmed that the WhatsApp group has no association with SoFi Securities LLC, any SoFi affiliates, or any licensed investment adviser or broker-dealer in California. Consumers are urged to verify the licensing status of any investment or financial service provider through dfpi.ca.gov before responding to solicitations.
