Icebreaker Shipyard Collaboration Request

MARAD has issued a Notice and Request for Information to identify U.S. shipyards with capacity to construct ice-capable vessels and determine factors needed for domestic icebreaker production. The RFI supports the trilateral ICE Pact framework with Canada and Finland, signed November 19, 2025, which aims to enhance collaboration on polar icebreaker production, workforce development, and research. Comments must be received by June 5, 2026.

MSHA Delays Silica Exposure Rule for Miners

MSHA issued a final rule delaying the effective date of conforming amendments to its respirable crystalline silica standards for metal and nonmetal mines. The delay follows a judicial stay from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Existing standards in 30 CFR 56.5001, 56.5005, 57.5001, and 57.5005 remain in effect while the court reviews the 2024 Silica Rule.

DTN Air Bag Inflator Safety Defect - Initial Decision

NHTSA has issued an initial decision that certain DTN air bag inflators contain a safety defect. The inflators, likely illegally imported by unknown parties, have been linked to 12 ruptures in US vehicles resulting in 10 fatalities and 2 severe injuries. Public comments are being sought by April 17, 2026, after which a final determination could render sale of the inflators illegal in the United States.

Seat Belt Reminder Requirements - FMVSS No. 208 Amendment
