Renewal of Transportation of Hazardous Materials Highway Routing Information Collection Request
Summary
FMCSA requests public comments on renewing OMB Control Number 2126-0014 for the "Transportation of Hazardous Materials, Highway Routing" Information Collection Request. The ICR collects routing designation information from 57 respondents including 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. Territories, and one Indian Tribe. States and Indian Tribes must report new or changed hazardous materials highway routing designations within 60 days of establishment. The estimated annual burden is 7.125 hours. Comments are due May 11, 2026.
What changed
FMCSA is seeking public comments to renew an existing Information Collection Request for hazardous materials highway routing data. The collection, authorized under 49 U.S.C. 5112 and 5125, requires states and Indian Tribes to report new or changed hazardous materials routing designations within 60 days through their routing agencies. This information is consolidated and published annually in the Federal Register and on the FMCSA website.
Affected parties—including state transportation departments, Indian Tribes with designated routes, and U.S. Territories—should review the current reporting burden estimate of 7.125 hours annually and submit any comments on the necessity, accuracy, or ways to enhance the collection quality. The current approval expires April 30, 2026, and this renewal would extend the approval period.
