Nieuwsbericht 17-04-2026 | 15:00 Vanwege een tekort aan vaccins tegen Newcastle Disease (ND, pseudovogelpest) in de Europese Unie staat het Bureau Diergeneesmiddelen tijdelijk het gebruik toe van een vaccin dat normaal gesproken niet is toegelaten tot de Europese markt. Sinds oktober 2025 is er een uitbraak van pseudovogelpest onder pluimvee in Polen. Inmiddels zijn er in Duitsland ook ND-uitbraken.
Pseudovogelpest is een dodelijke ziekte voor pluimvee en andere vogels. De ziekte verspreidt zich vooral via besmette wilde vogels.
De ziekte komt normaal gesproken niet voor in de Europese Unie. Pseudovogelpest vereist onmiddellijke bestrijdingsmaatregelen, zodra de ziekte wordt vastgesteld. Vaccinatie ertegen is in Nederland verplicht voor alle bedrijfsmatig gehouden kippen en kalkoenen. Deze wettelijke plicht geldt ook voor postduiven die deelnemen aan tentoonstellingen en wedstrijden en voor hobbypluimvee dat naar tentoonstellingen gaat.
Tekorten
Er is op dit moment een acuut tekort aan ND-vaccins voor pluimvee. Dit heeft te maken met verhoogde afname (ND uitbraken in onder andere Polen) en met verminderde productie door verminderde beschikbaarheid van eieren. Er zijn speciale (SPF) eieren nodig om het vaccin te maken. Deze SPF-eieren komen van specialistische leveranciers. Door ruimingen bij leveranciers in kader van vogelgriep, zijn deze SPF-eieren minder beschikbaar.
Vanwege deze uitbraak en vanwege problemen met opschalen van levende vaccinproductie is er op dit moment een tekort aan ND-vaccins in de EU. Bureau Diergeneesmiddelen (BD) heeft het dossier opgevraagd van Vaxxon Clone, een ND-vaccin dat niet is toegelaten op de Europese markt. BD heeft dit vaccin positief beoordeeld op kwaliteit, veiligheid en werkzaamheid. Daarom geeft BD tijdelijke toestemming voor gebruik van Vaxxon Clone in Nederland.
