What changed
The New Jersey State Board of Accountancy issued a Consent Order reprimanding Christopher Abruzzo and imposing a $5,000 civil penalty for violating N.J.S.A. 45:2B-62(a), which prohibits the unlicensed practice of public accountancy. The respondent engaged in unlicensed practice for approximately five years while holding a valid New York CPA license.
Professionals holding out-of-state licenses must obtain proper licensure before practicing in New Jersey. Individuals or firms practicing public accountancy in New Jersey without a valid license face regulatory action including reprimands and monetary penalties. The Board's action serves as a reminder that multi-state practice requires compliance with each state's specific licensing requirements.
