Ministry Highlights Week of the Young Child
17 April, 2026
The Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors was proud to recognise and celebrate the Week of the Young Child, observed from 11 to 17 April. This annual observance highlights the importance of early childhood development and the need to support young children and their families through strong policies, programmes, and community engagement.
Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, the Hon. Tinee Furbert, JP, MP, stated: “The Week of the Young Child is a vital reminder that investing in our youngest citizens is an investment in our future. Our Ministry remains committed to strengthening programmes and partnerships that support early childhood development, empower families, and ensure that every child has access to safe, nurturing, and enriching environments in which they can thrive.
“Early education and programmes are critical for cognitive, social and emotional growth and we must ensure early education is recognized for its vital role in preparing children for future success. Happy Valley Child Care Centre, the Government's only operated Child Care facility on island, will continue to uphold its commitment to high-quality childcare. The Centre offers enrichment programmes that encourage family and community involvement and build upon child development.”
The Ministry continues to support young children and their families through targeted programmes such as the Child Day Care Allowance Programme, which assists with the cost of childcare, and the services provided by Child and Family Services, including child protection, foster care, and family support interventions. Through the Office of Youth Affairs, the Ministry also promotes a continuum of development with youth leadership, engagement, and community outreach programmes that help build confidence, resilience, and positive social outcomes from childhood into adolescence.
As this observance comes to an end, the Ministry encourages families, educators, and the wider community to continue to participate in age-appropriate activities that promote learning through play, creativity, and positive interaction. These experiences are fundamental to healthy child development and long-term success.
The Ministry of Youth, Social Development and Seniors remains committed to supporting Bermuda’s children and families through meaningful programmes and policies that lay the foundation for a strong and vibrant society.
