Kari's Law Reporting Act
Summary
H.R. 5201, the Kari's Law Reporting Act, directs the Federal Communications Commission to publish a report within 180 days of enactment on implementation and enforcement of section 721 of the Communications Act of 1934 regarding multi-line telephone systems. The report must address manufacturer/vendor compliance, obstacles to compliance, potential enforcement improvements, and legislative recommendations to Congress.
What changed
The Kari's Law Reporting Act would require the FCC to publish a report within 180 days of enactment examining the implementation of Kari's Law Act of 2017 requirements for multi-line telephone system manufacturers and vendors. The report would include a compliance summary, identification of obstacles, recommendations for improved enforcement, and potential legislative amendments.
Multi-line telephone system manufacturers and vendors would be indirectly affected as the report assesses their compliance with section 721 of the Communications Act of 1934. The FCC would need to gather and publish implementation data, with findings potentially leading to future regulatory changes or additional compliance requirements for affected parties.
