HELENA, Mont. – The Montana Department of Commerce announced today that more than $90,000 in grant funding has been awarded to the City of Roundup for the completion of the Wier Building rehabilitation project. The funding is provided by Commerce’s Montana Main Street Final Stage Funding Grant Program.
“The Montana Main Street Program assists with the revitalization of downtowns and helps preserve historic structures that contribute to Montana’s unique character and sense of place,” said Commerce Director Marta Bertoglio.
The MMS Program works with local partners to identify and plan for a community’s greatest development needs and provides seed money to help implement high-impact projects. The Final Stage Grant is a new grant introduced through the MMS Program to address current Main Street projects that have been adversely affected by rising costs or unforeseen circumstances such as natural disasters.
Wier Building Project Manager Theresa Doumitt said, “The Montana Main Street Program has been a key partner in the Wier Building revitalization project. MMS support enables Musselshell County and Roundup leaders to work together to be proactive, invest in the future and preserve the area's rich cultural heritage.”
Currently, there are 38 Montana Main Street communities. Applicants for MMS Final Stage Funding Grants must currently have an active MMS project for which they are seeking additional funding to complete the project. The project must be at least 75% complete at time of application.
The Montana Main Street Program was established in 2005 and is administered by Commerce’s Community MT Division. The funding for the program comes from the 2023 Montana Legislature’s SB 540.
