Getachew et al. v. City of Willowick - Racial Discrimination in Code Enforcement

Lemma Getachew and Guenet Indale, Ethiopian-American naturalized citizens, filed suit against the City of Willowick and fourteen individual defendants alleging racial discrimination in code enforcement. The complaint alleges that after inspectors learned of plaintiffs' race in 2021-2022, they began increasing enforcement activity at plaintiffs' apartment complex, filing thirteen criminal cases between December 2021 and December 2023; eleven resulted in dismissals or acquittals.
