Summary

The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals reversed William Chad Randolph's rape conviction based on a prior Alabama Supreme Court opinion. The case has been remanded to the Greene Circuit Court for further proceedings consistent with the Supreme Court's ruling.

What changed

The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has reversed the rape conviction of William Chad Randolph, citing the Alabama Supreme Court's decision in Ex parte Randolph. This action stems from a prior ruling by the state's highest court and requires the reversal of the conviction.

The case is remanded to the Greene Circuit Court for further proceedings. This reversal means the conviction is no longer valid, and the lower court must take action consistent with the Supreme Court's directive. Legal professionals involved in this case should review the Supreme Court's opinion for specific guidance on the next steps.

What to do next

  1. Review Alabama Supreme Court opinion in Ex parte Randolph (Ms. SC-2024-0760, Nov. 21, 2025)
  2. Conduct further proceedings in Greene Circuit Court as directed by the Supreme Court
