INPI Updates RPI 2884 with Trademark Priority Ordinances 066 and 067

INPI published Ordinances 066 and 067/2026 updating Section I of RPI 2884 on April 14, 2026. The ordinances establish Phase II of the trademark priority processing pilot project: Ordinance 066 defines the modalities, while Ordinance 067 sets the quota system and reception criteria. Both enter into force on May 1, 2026.

INPI Extends Deadlines for April 20, 21, 23

Brazil's INPI has extended all filing and prosecution deadlines falling on April 20, 21, and 23, 2026, because the agency will be closed on those dates. April 20 is a facultative day under Portaria MGI nº 11.460/2025, April 21 is a national holiday, and April 23 is a state holiday in Rio de Janeiro under Lei nº 5.198/2008. Deadlines for April 20 and 21 are moved to April 22, 2026, at the headquarters and all regional units; deadlines for April 23 at the Rio de Janeiro headquarters are moved to April 24, 2026.

INPI and JETRO Discuss Patent Processing Advances

INPI met with representatives of Japan's JETRO and the Consulate-General of Japan in Rio de Janeiro on April 17, 2026 to share strategic advances in reducing patent processing timelines in Brazil. DIRPA presented its Digital Transformation Plan, which will unify 14 systems between 2026 and 2028 to increase transparency and efficiency for users. Topics discussed included the goal of reducing patent decision timelines to two years, a new automation project for real-time process tracking, and Japan's search outsourcing model.
