Slot Metered Drop Replaces Physical Drop for Gross Gaming Revenue Reporting
Summary
The Mississippi Gaming Commission issued Industry Letter No. 2023-01, effective for January 2023 reporting, requiring all licensed gaming operators to use slot metered drop instead of physical drop when calculating and reporting slot gaming revenue through the CARDs system. Table and card games remain on physical drop methodology. This change modifies the calculation method without altering the definition of gross revenue.
What changed
Effective for revenue reported beginning January 2023, licensed gaming operators must calculate slot gaming revenue using slot metered drop figures rather than physical drop of the machine when reporting to the Mississippi Gaming Commission through the CARDs system. Table and card game revenue reporting remains unchanged, continuing to use physical drop methodology.\n\nGaming licensees must update internal reporting processes to capture metered drop data and ensure compliance with the revised calculation method by the January 2023 reporting cycle.

MISSISSIPPI GAMING COMMISSION Post Office Box 23577 Jackson, Mississippi 39225-3577 (601) 576-3800 INDUSTRY LETTER NO. 2023-01
January 24, 2023
TO: All Licensed Operators FROM: Jay McDaniel, Executive Director RE: Revenue Reporting to the MGC This Industry Letter replaces and supersedes all prior letters/memos related to the subject matter of reporting Gross Gaming Revenue directly to the Mississippi Gaming Commission. All licensed operators are required to report adjusted gaming revenue totals monthly to the Executive Director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission pursuant to 13 Mississippi Administrative Code Pt. VII, R. 1.1(d), Record Keeping of Licensee. Licensees are currently required to report, in addition to other property information, the monthly gross gaming revenue through the CARDs system to the MGC. Beginning with the reporting of revenue for the calendar month of January 2023, licensees are to use slot metered drop in the calculation of slot gaming revenue rather than the physical drop of the machine. This will not change the definition of gross revenue, only how the term "drop" is to be recognized and reported. Gross revenue reporting for table and card games will still use physical drop because tables are not metered and table games are dropped daily. Licensees will continue to report and pay taxes to the Mississippi Department of Revenue in the time and manner required by the Department of Revenue using the TAP (Taxpayer Access Portal). Questions regarding this industry letter should be directed to the Mississippi Gaming Commission Compliance Division. This letter is available on the MGC website at www.msgamingcommission.com under Regulations, Industry Letters.
