Iowa Issues Consumer Alert on Online Gambling Scams and Illegal Operators
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission and Department of Public Safety issued a consumer alert warning Iowans about fraudulent online gambling websites that falsely claim to be licensed or spoof legitimate Iowa casinos. The alert clarifies that online sports wagering is legal only through licensed operators, while online casino-style gambling, slots, and poker remain illegal in Iowa. The commission warns that illegal operators are not subject to independent testing, player protection requirements, or compliance standards, and advises Iowans to verify operator licensing before providing personal or financial information.
Request for Proposals for FY2026 Iowa Race Horse Aftercare Fund
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission issued a Notice requesting proposals from 501(c)(3) organizations for FY2026 Race Horse Aftercare Fund grants. Approximately $33,115 is available for distribution to organizations dedicated to the rehabilitation, retraining, and rehoming of former Iowa race horses. Proposals must be submitted by 3:30 PM on February 13, 2026.
January 2026 Iowa Casino Revenue $163.8M, Up 2.42%
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission reported that state-licensed casinos and sports wagering operators generated $163.8 million in receipts for January 2026, representing a 2.42% increase compared to January 2025. Casino adjusted gross revenue was $135.98 million with $25.46 million in state gaming taxes collected. Sports wagering revenue reached $27.80 million with $1.88 million in state taxes. As of January 2026, 19 state-licensed casinos and 11 online sports betting operators are operating in Iowa.
FY2026 Horse Racing Promotion Fund Request for Proposals
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) has issued a Request for Proposals for the FY2026 Horse Racing Promotion Fund, with $1,895.60 available for nonprofit organizations. The fund, established by the 1992 Legislature under statute 99D.12, supports research, education, marketing, and promotion of horse racing in Iowa. Proposals must be submitted by April 9, 2026 at 3:30 PM.
Iowa February 2026 Gaming Revenue $156M, Casinos Up 7%
The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission reported February 2026 gaming revenue of $156.0 million, with casino revenue increasing 6.97% to $136.21 million in adjusted gross revenue. Sports wagering revenue decreased 6.82% to $19.82 million. State gaming taxes collected totaled $25.72 million and state sports wagering taxes totaled $1.34 million. Super Bowl LX wagering declined 18.44% to $17.47 million compared to the prior year.
