Stevenson Munro Appointed Co-chair, Rachel Sloan Joins Management Committee
Summary
The Wolfsberg Group, an international association of major banks focused on anti-financial crime frameworks, has announced the appointment of Stevenson Munro as Co-chair and Rachel Sloan as a member of its Management Committee. Munro succeeds Jennifer Shasky Calvery of HSBC and brings prior OFAC experience. The leadership changes are effective immediately.
What changed
The Wolfsberg Group announced two senior leadership changes: Stevenson Munro has been appointed Co-chair, succeeding Jennifer Shasky Calvery of HSBC, and Rachel Sloan has been added to the Management Committee. Stevenson Munro brings prior public-sector experience as Deputy Chief Counsel at the U.S. Treasury Department's OFAC, alongside his current role as Global Head of Financial Crime Risk at Standard Chartered Bank. Rachel Sloan joins from her position as BSA Officer and Head of Global AML Program at Citi.
These appointments do not create any compliance obligations for Wolfsberg member institutions or other parties. The changes reflect a transition in the leadership of an industry association and are informational in nature. Compliance professionals at member banks should be aware of the new leadership composition as the Wolfsberg Group continues to publish AML and sanctions guidance frameworks that inform industry practice.

Wolfsberg Group Announces New Co-Chair and Management Committee Member
The Wolfsberg Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Stevenson Munro as Co-chair and the addition of Rachel Sloan to its Management Committee.
“Steve and Rachel bring exceptional and complementary expertise to the Group,” notes current Co-chair Emma Molvidson of UBS. “At a time when new challenges—ranging from cryptoassets to a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape—are pushing institutions to their limits, fresh thinking and strong leadership are essential to the fight against financial crime. I am genuinely grateful for the opportunity to share the leadership of the Group with such experienced colleagues, and I would like to personally thank Jennifer Calvery for her leadership, dedication, and the thoughtful way she guided the Group during her time as Co-chair.”
Steve Munro succeeds Jennifer Shasky Calvery, Group Head of Financial Crime, Risk and Compliance at HSBC, who has completed her mandate as Co-chair. Commenting on her own tenure, she remarks, “It has been an honour to have a turn at leading such a respected organisation and I wish to express a sincere thank you to my colleagues for the opportunity. As I hand the baton to Steve, I do so confident in his leadership for the next stretch.”
Steve brings deep expertise in financial crime risk and compliance. As Global Head of Financial Crime Risk at Standard Chartered Bank, Steve is responsible for setting and driving the bank’s global approach to managing financial crime risk, including AML, sanctions, anti-bribery and corruption, and fraud. Since joining the bank in 2015, he has helped shape and evolve its financial crime framework, having first taken on the role of Global Head of Sanctions Compliance. Steve’s career spans senior leadership positions across a number of international financial institutions. He also brings public-sector experience, having previously served as Deputy Chief Counsel at the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), where he supported the design and implementation of U.S. economic sanctions regimes.
The Wolfsberg Group is also delighted to welcome Rachel Sloan as a new member to its Management Committee. Rachel is currently the BSA Officer and Head of the Global AML Program at Citi. Before joining Citi, she held senior financial crime compliance roles at State Street Bank and Trust Company and Deutsche Bank AG.
She also previously served as a Partner at Deloitte Financial Advisory Services, advising financial institutions on the remediation of AML consent orders and the modernization of AML frameworks. Rachel holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of New South Wales, Australia. Tracey McDermott, member of the Wolfsberg Group Management Committee, notes: “The fight against financial crime has never been more important. We are privileged at the Wolfsberg Group to be able to draw on our members’ experience and expertise to drive greater effectiveness in this fight. It is a testament to the strength of the Group and the commitment of our members that we have colleagues of the experience, calibre and wisdom of Steve and Rachel stepping into these critical roles. I am looking forward to working with them as we take forward our ambitious agenda with our partners in the private and the public sector globally.”
Ned Conway, the Executive Secretary of the Wolfsberg Group, adds, “I would like to thank Jen for her strong support as Co-chair over the past two years and continued dedication to Wolfsberg. It has been inspiring to work under her leadership and vision. As the Group continues to focus on demonstrating effectiveness through innovation, Steve moves into the role of Co-chair and Rachel takes up a seat on the Committee at a pivotal moment for the industry. Their perspectives and experience will strengthen our work as we respond to emerging risks and deepen collaboration both within and between the public and private sectors.”
