TSA congratulates Secretary Markwayne Mullin on his confirmation
Under Secretary Mullin’s leadership, TSA will continue to usher in the new Golden Age of Travel National Press Release Tuesday, March 24, 2026 WASHINGTON – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) extends our warmest congratulations to the Honorable Markwayne Mullin on his confirmation by the Senate as our new Secretary of Homeland Security.
President Trump promised the American people a new Golden Age of Travel, and under Secretary Mullin’s direction, TSA will continue to deliver on that promise.
Despite the enormous challenges our workforce has faced over the past six months, the men and women of TSA still work every day to ensure travelers reach their destinations with all the security and efficiency we can provide. Around 61,000 TSA employees, including every frontline TSA officer, have been working without pay during the DHS shutdown, and we look forward to Secretary Mullin’s leadership to reopen DHS and put money back into our employees’ wallets. As we prepare for major events this year, including FIFA World Cup 2026, America’s 250th anniversary, and TSA’s 25th anniversary, we welcome Secretary Mullin’s steadfast commitment to helping TSA secure our skies.
“Secretary Mullin is taking the helm at DHS during a critical time for TSA,” said TSA Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Administrator Ha Nguyen McNeill. “We’re expecting another year of record-breaking volume as Americans and visitors from across the globe travel for major events like FIFA this year. We look forward to Secretary Mullin’s leadership and working with our partners across DHS to deliver a seamless and secure experience for these millions of travelers.”
The new Secretary of Homeland Security also enters the role after a year of significant achievements under President Trump, including:
- TSA successfully implementing REAL ID on May 7, 2025, and achieving 94% compliance, which continues to steadily increase.
- Increased REAL ID compliance rate is up to 99% at some airports.
- TSA initiating campaigns including “ Serve with Honor, Travel with Ease ” campaign and the “ Families on the Fly ” campaign, and the first-ever TSA PreCheck Buy One, Get One.
- TSA launching the “ Shoes On ” campaign, allowing travelers to keep their shoes on while passing through security screening at TSA checkpoints.
- Working alongside our ICE partners to provide in-flight security for over 8,000 removal flights. In 2026, TSA will continue to leverage innovation and technology to further usher in the Golden Age of Travel. Under Secretary Mullin, TSA will keep enhancing the traveler experience through new technologies and procedures that make our checkpoints more seamless and secure. TSA is excited to work with the new Secretary to continue executing President Trump’s vision and delivering that Golden Age of Travel for the American people.
