Virtual Public Meeting April 14 for Proposed Illinois 23 Roundabout
The Illinois Department of Transportation announces a virtual public meeting April 14 through May 14, 2026, for proposed improvements at the intersection of Illinois 23 and Chicago Road (County Highway 16) south of Waterman in DeKalb County. The project proposes reconstructing the intersection into a roundabout and includes drainage systems, entrance enhancements, and new highway lighting. IDOT prepared an environmental document supporting a categorical exclusion under NEPA. The 30-day public comment period allows residents to review materials and submit feedback online or by mail/email.
Work on U.S. 20 Over Galena River Bridge Begins May 4
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that bridge deck patching on U.S. 20/Illinois 84 over the Galena River in Galena will begin Monday, May 4. One lane will remain open controlled by temporary traffic signals, with pedestrian access maintained throughout. All lanes will reopen during the Memorial Day holiday weekend, with work resuming afterward and completion expected by end of June.
$2.8M Illinois 32 Resurfacing Project, Effingham County, Begins April 22
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced a $2.8 million patching and resurfacing project on Illinois 32 from the Shelby County/Effingham County line to Illinois 33. The 3.1-mile project begins Wednesday, April 22, 2026 and is expected to be completed by the end of May. Lane closures with flaggers, signs and message boards will direct traffic through work zones.
Emergency Lane Closure on Westbound I-80 in Joliet and Rockdale
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced an emergency right lane closure on westbound Interstate 80 at Center Street in Joliet and Rockdale for emergency concrete repairs. The closure was implemented on April 16, 2026, with repairs anticipated to be completed and the lane reopened by evening rush. Eastbound I-80 is not impacted. Motorists should expect delays and consider alternate routes.
4.6-Mile I-55 Resurfacing North of Sherman Begins April 20
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced a 4.6-mile resurfacing project on Interstate 55 from just north of the Sherman interchange to the Logan County line beginning Monday, April 20, 2026. Work includes guardrail replacement, shoulder maintenance and drainage improvements, with lane closures expected but at least two lanes in each direction open during daytime hours. The project is expected to be completed by the end of November.
