What changed

PennDOT published a traffic advisory announcing a planned roadway repair project on Funston Road in Lycoming County. The road will be closed daily between April 22 and May 8, 2026, with milling, base repairs, and paving work using Cold in Place Recycling. A detour will route traffic via Pine Summit Road during work hours.

Drivers, trucking companies, and transportation firms operating in Lycoming County should plan alternate routes during the closure period. Commercial vehicle operators should update GPS routing and notify dispatch of potential delays. The closure affects a local road segment, not a major highway, minimizing broad transportation disruption but requiring awareness for local deliveries and school bus operations.

Roadway Repair Project to Begin on Funston Road in Franklin Township, Lycoming County

April 20, 2026

Keep up with PennDOT on social media

Between Wednesday, April 22 and Friday, May 8, Funston Road will be closed daily between Route 442 and Moreland Baptist Road (Route 2019), while a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) maintenance crew performs work on a roadway repair project. Work on the project includes milling, or removing, the top layer of the roadway, base repairs, and paving using the recycled millings.

A detour using Pine Summit Road (Route 2017) will be in place daily between the hours of 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, weather permitting. Property owners and school buses will be accommodated.

Drivers should be alert, slow down, expect delays in travel, and drive with caution.

This roadway repair process, also known as reclamation, uses a process called Cold in Place Recycling (CIPR), takes place after the milling and base repairs are completed. The CIPR process does not use heat to bond the asphalt together, but rather a specialized oil mix. Once the existing asphalt is ground up and infused with the oil, it is transferred to a paver and placed back on the road then compacted with rollers. The newly resurfaced road is left to cure for 30 days before applying a seal coat or bituminous wearing course to seal the road.

Drivers can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,200 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
