California Transportation Commission Allocates $988.7M for Safer Highways, Transit, Walkable Communities
The California Transportation Commission allocated $988.7 million to expand transit capabilities, add highway safety features, and advance climate action goals. The funding includes $184 million from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 and $336 million from Senate Bill 1. Projects include HOV lanes, electric buses, wildlife crossings, bridge repairs, and complete streets improvements across multiple California districts.
California Creates Transit Deputy Director Role, Restores Mass Transportation Division
Caltrans announced organizational changes to strengthen public transit, including establishing a new Deputy Director for Transit and Rail Programs, restoring the Division of Mass Transportation, and releasing a Director's Policy on Transit. A new California Transit Advisory Committee (CALTAC) with 20 member agencies will advise on transit-related matters. The policy focuses on transit priority facilities such as dedicated bus lanes and signal priority to improve transit speed and reliability on the State Highway System.
California Awards $25M to 90 Cleanup Projects Through Clean California Initiative
Caltrans announced $25 million in CCEP grants to 90 local projects supporting litter removal, graffiti abatement, and public space beautification across California. Funded through the Clean California initiative under Governor Newsom, 100% of awards target underserved communities and include workforce development components for justice-impacted individuals, homeless populations, and at-risk youth.

Caltrans announces its 5th Annual Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Summit on March 4, 2026, at the Fresno Convention Center. The free event connects small businesses, disabled veteran business enterprises, and disadvantaged business enterprises with public agencies and prime contractors to expand access to transportation contracting opportunities.
California Allocates $848 Million for Transit, Freight and Transportation Infrastructure
The California Transportation Commission allocated $848 million to advance mass transit systems, expand pedestrian and bicycle options, and improve freight movement. The funding includes $47 million from the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 and $405 million via California Senate Bill 1. The Commission approved the 2026 State Highway Operation and Protection Program investing $17.9 billion over four years and the 2026 State Transportation Improvement Program investing $2.7 billion in priority projects statewide.
