$30.2M Black Spot Funding for 44 Queensland Road Safety Projects

The Australian Government will allocate $30.2 million to improve road safety at 44 locations across Queensland under the 2026–27 Black Spot program. Local councils will contribute an additional $3.1 million toward two of the projects. Funded improvements include intersection upgrades, pedestrian facilities, road widening, and signage and lighting infrastructure. The Queensland Black Spot Consultative Panel, comprising local stakeholders, recommended the projects based on community priority.

WSI Noise Insulation Program Launches 23rd April 2026

The Australian Government has launched the Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) Noise Insulation Program, commencing 23 April 2026 and running for three years until April 2029. The voluntary program will deliver noise treatments including acoustic glazing, insulation, door upgrades, and sealing to noise-sensitive buildings within the eligibility area. Master Building Solutions Pty Ltd has been appointed as the managing contractor to deliver all works at no cost to eligible landowners.

Norfolk Island PFAS Monitoring 2025 Results Released

The Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts released results from the fourth round of annual PFAS monitoring on Norfolk Island conducted by environmental consultants Senversa in November 2025. Monitoring covered 54 sources including water, soil, sediment, and biota samples. Results indicate PFAS concentrations were generally within the historical range, consistent with previous monitoring. The department remains committed to working with Norfolk Island Regional Council on PFAS risk management, including removal of legacy firefighting foam from the island.
