Summary

The General Services Administration issued a statement on April 3, 2026, reversing its February 27, 2026 decision to remove Anthropic from USAi.gov and the Multiple Award Schedule. GSA is restoring Anthropic technology to pre-February 27, 2026 status following a preliminary injunction from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

What changed

GSA announced it is withdrawing its February 27, 2026 announcement removing Anthropic from government systems and restoring the company's technology to its prior status. This reversal follows a preliminary injunction issued by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on March 26, 2026 (Case No. 26-cv-01996-RFL), which paused implementation of the President's directive requiring federal agencies to stop using Anthropic's technology.

Government agencies currently using or planning to integrate Anthropic products should resume or continue those integrations. Federal contractors and technology vendors should monitor ongoing litigation, as this preliminary injunction may be subject to appeal or further court proceedings. GSA will continue offering Anthropic models in GSA Chat and through external facing services and the Multiple Award Schedule.

What to do next

  1. Resume or continue system integrations with Anthropic products that were paused following the February 27 announcement
  2. Update procurement records to reflect Anthropic's continued availability on the Multiple Award Schedule
  3. Monitor Case No. 26-cv-01996-RFL for further court developments

GSA Issues Statement on Anthropic Preliminary Injunction

On February 27, 2026, GSA announced that it was removing Anthropic from USAi.gov and our Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) in accordance with President Trump’s directive to all federal agencies to stop using Anthropic’s technology.

Pursuant to a preliminary injunction from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California (Case No. 26-cv-01996-RFL) on March 26, 2026, pausing the government’s implementation of the President’s directive, GSA is withdrawing this announcement and restoring Anthropic technology to the status quo in effect prior to February 27, 2026. GSA will continue allowing system integrations with Anthropic products, and will offer Anthropic models in GSA Chat. Anthropic models will also be made available in external facing services and our Multiple Award Schedule.
