Patent: Efficient PDU Transmission Termination in Wireless Networks
Summary
The USPTO has published a new patent application (US20260088930A1) detailing a method for efficiently terminating the transmission of Protocol Data Units (PDUs) in wireless communication networks. The invention focuses on determining an Application-Layer Forward Error Correction (AL-FEC) coding configuration and ceasing transmission based on a defined cease criterion.
What changed
This document is a patent application (US20260088930A1) filed by the USPTO, describing an invention related to wireless network communication. The core of the invention is a method for a node in a wireless network to efficiently terminate the transmission of Protocol Data Unit (PDU) sets. This is achieved by determining the Application-Layer Forward Error Correction (AL-FEC) coding configuration and applying a 'cease criterion' to halt transmission, thereby optimizing network resource usage.
As this is a patent application, it does not impose direct compliance obligations or deadlines on regulated entities. However, companies involved in wireless network technology, particularly those developing or utilizing AL-FEC mechanisms, may find the patented methods relevant to their product development and intellectual property strategies. The filing date was October 24, 2022, and the publication date is March 26, 2026.

Abstract
There is provided a method in a node of a wireless communication network. The method comprises receiving from an application a protocol data unit (PDU) set corresponding to an encoded application data unit (ADU). The method further comprises determining an Application-Layer Forward Error Correction (AL-FEC) coding configuration associated with the encoded ADU and transmitting the PDU set. The method further comprises determining whether a cease criterion is satisfied, wherein the cease criterion is based on the AL-FEC coding configuration, and ceasing transmission of the PDU set based on the cease criterion being satisfied.
