Email

Summary

The USPTO has published a new patent application (US20260088936A1) detailing a method and apparatus for avoiding unnecessary wireless transmissions. The application describes a system where a transmitter node can identify and indicate obsolete packets to a receiver node, aiming to improve network efficiency.

What changed

This document is a published patent application from the USPTO, not a regulatory rule or guidance. It describes a technical invention related to telecommunications systems, specifically a method and apparatus for a transmitter node to identify and signal obsolete wireless packets to a receiver node. The application, filed under number 18898284, aims to prevent unnecessary transmissions by determining if a received status message indicates a packet was not received and if that packet is obsolete.

As this is a patent application, it does not impose direct regulatory obligations on companies. However, entities involved in developing or manufacturing telecommunications equipment, particularly in wireless transmission technologies, may find the described methods relevant to their research and development efforts. Compliance officers in this sector should be aware that such patented technologies could influence future industry standards or product designs.

Abstract

A transmitter node of a telecommunications system comprises interface circuitry and processor circuitry. The interface circuitry is configured to receive a status message over a radio interface from a receiver node regarding a packet. The processor circuitry is configured to make a determination that both (1) the status message indicates that the packet was not received from the receiver node; and (2) the packet is considered to be an obsolete packet; and, in accordance with the determination, to generate an obsolete packet indication message that identifies the packet as the obsolete packet. The interface circuitry is further configured to transmit the obsolete service data unit indication message that identifies the packet as the obsolete service data to the receiver node. Methods of operating such nodes are also provided.
