The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has taken a landmark step in its digital transformation journey with the official launch of the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS); a unified platform set to replace the existing GITMIS system and Taxpayer Portal.

The launch ceremony, held at the Accra West Area Office and Kaneshie Taxpayer Service Centre (TSC), marked the beginning of a pilot phase that signals a definitive shift away from manual and semi-manual tax administration processes toward a streamlined, taxpayer-centric future.

A Vision for a Better System

Project owner and Deputy Commissioner of Operations for the Domestic Tax Revenue Division (DTRD), Mr. Robert Gbadegbe, set an ambitious benchmark for the platform — one that not only replaces GITMIS but surpasses it, delivering a more robust and seamless experience for both GRA officers and taxpayers.

Commissioner-General Mr. Anthony Kwasi Sarpong praised the ITAS project team for their exceptional pace, noting that they delivered the pilot-ready system in roughly nine months; half the projected 18-month timeline. “For too long, we have relied on manual and semi-manual ways of doing things,” he said. “This comprehensive digital platform is a great milestone that will drastically improve revenue mobilisation.”

Government and Leadership Back the Platform

The launch drew strong endorsements from across government and GRA leadership. Mr. Andrew Ameckson, representing the Ministry of Finance, urged all GRA staff to fully embrace ITAS, stressing that its success depends on collective ownership across the workforce.

Dr. Martin Kolbil Yamborigya, Commissioner of the DTRD, described ITAS as “more than just a technological upgrade” and challenged staff to leverage it in building a world-class tax administration system. He extended special congratulations to the Kaneshie TSC and the Accra West Area Office for being selected as the pilot site.

Kaneshie TSC Tasked to Lead the Way

The Commissioner-General designated the Kaneshie TSC as the standard-bearer for ITAS, responsible for mastering the system and training other offices nationwide ahead of the full rollout.

He also reaffirmed GRA’s commitment to ease of use, pledging that the bureaucracy of the past would not follow the Authority into its digital future.

This assurance resonated with Mr. Kingsley Adu Ampong, who spoke to represent taxpayers and was formally assured by GRA leadership that ITAS is designed with the taxpayer at its centre with a focus of prioritising transparency and significantly reducing time spent on tax-related tasks.

What Comes Next

The pilot phase at Kaneshie TSC is expected to run for two months, with a gradual rollout to additional TSCs to follow. A full national rollout is targeted for September 2026.

Also present at the launch were Accra West Area Director Ms. Anna Marian Atuah; Mr. Sam Opoku-Boadu, Assistant Commissioner for Digital and Innovation Technology; former Deputy Commissioner of Operations and original project owner Mr. Daniel Edisi; and Mr. Benjamin Nsiah, Head of the Kaneshie TSC.

As ITAS goes live, the GRA sets its sights on a modernised fiscal landscape, moving Ghana closer to a fully digitised economy.
