CMF appoints new member of Civil Society Council

Conecta Mayor UC joins the body presided by Chairwoman Catherine Tornel.

April 24, 2026 - The Financial Market Commission (CMF) announces that the first meeting of the 2026 Civil Society Council (CSC) took place today. The Council, presided by Chairwoman Catherine Tornel, decreed the incorporation of Conecta Mayor UC through Exempt Resolution No. 3,948.

This organization of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile promotes social integration, dignity, and autonomy for senior citizens in Chile. It focuses on digital inclusion and bridging technology gaps.

According to Law No. 20,500 on Citizen Participation in Public Administration, the CSC is an autonomous advisory body integrated by trade union representatives, non-governmental organizations, academics, and members of the CMF.

Regarding CSC operations, it holds at least five meetings per year, which may be conducted in person or remotely. These meetings address matters related to the CMF's work - such as regulatory initiatives, financial education, market development, financial inclusion, and other issues of public interest concerning the financial system.

The CSC currently consists of representatives from ChileMujeres; the Organization of Consumers and Users; the University of Chile; the Catholic University of Chile; Adolfo Ibáñez University; the University of Concepción; the Emprender Foundation; and Conecta Mayor UC.

At the conclusion of the CSC meeting, Chairwoman Catherine Tornel highlighted the contribution of civil society as an input for the CMF's decision-making. "This is a very important forum for us. It is crucial to listen to and understand the views of various stakeholders and participants in the financial sector so that we can effectively carry out our regulatory and supervisory role, and our Civil Society Council is a key player in this regard," she said.
