Margin Trading Facility Guidelines, 2082

SEBON has issued the Margin Trading Facility Guidelines, 2082, establishing the first comprehensive regulatory framework for margin trading in Nepal's securities market. The guidelines were approved under the authority of Section 118 of the Securities-Related Act, 2063, and apply to all securities brokers and dealers providing margin facilities to investors. The guidelines set out requirements for eligible securities, collateral management, margin ratios, client qualification criteria, and risk management procedures for margin accounts.

Affected parties—including securities brokers, dealers, and investors engaging in margin trading—should review their existing margin arrangements and systems to ensure compliance with the new requirements by the effective date. Broker-dealers offering margin facilities will need to implement appropriate policies, procedures, and controls as specified in the guidelines. Investors should be aware of updated margin requirements and eligible collateral specifications.
