NJ DEP Adds Shark River Basin and Lower Passaic River Regions to Resilient NJ Flood Program

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection announced the addition of two new regions — the Shark River Basin in Monmouth County and the Lower Passaic River in Essex County — to its Resilient NJ flood resilience planning program. The expansion brings the total number of participating regions to six, with the program now working with 87 municipalities across coastal and inland areas. NJ DEP is also accepting applications for up to four additional planning regions, with grants of up to $300,000 each available to selected regional teams.

Miller Road Bridge Over West Branch of Perkiomen Creek Closed in Douglass Township

PennDOT announced on April 20, 2026, that the Miller Road bridge carrying traffic over West Branch of Perkiomen Creek in Douglass Township, Montgomery County, has been closed due to severe deterioration of the wingwall and arch barrel discovered during a recent bridge inspection. The single-span stone masonry arch bridge, built in 1890, measures 14 feet long and 18 feet wide, and previously carried approximately 154 vehicles per day with posted weight limits of 18 tons single and 25 tons combination. Motorists are directed to use Paper Mill Road, Lone Pine Road, and Niantic Road as the detour while PennDOT engineers develop a repair plan.
