Advisory Council Formed for 6th Judicial District Vacancy (Montana)

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte announced an advisory council to assist in reviewing candidates for the 6th Judicial District court vacancy in Park and Sweet Grass Counties. The seven-member council includes attorneys, a former sheriff, a county attorney, a former commissioner, and community representatives. The governor received one application and the public comment period closed on April 16, 2026; applicants must receive at least three letters of support to be considered for appointment.

Montana Celebrates National Home Visiting Week, April 20-24, 2026

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) announces the Second Annual National Home Visiting Week (April 20-24, 2026), celebrating home visiting professionals who support expectant parents and families of young children through evidence-based coaching programs. Healthy Montana Families served 948 families in 2025 through 18 programs across 16 counties. Governor Greg Gianforte issued a state proclamation designating this period as Home Visiting Week in Montana.

Governor Gianforte Honors Montana Youth Challenge Academy Staff with Outstanding Service Award

Governor Greg Gianforte presented the Governor's Outstanding Service Award to Michelle Nelon and Ben Stewart of the Montana Youth Challenge Academy during an April 17, 2026 ceremony in Dillon, Montana. Nelon was recognized for 20 years of service leading the academy's post-residential mentor program, while Stewart received the award for 27 years of service in multiple cadet-support roles. The Governor's Outstanding Service Award recognizes state employees who go above and beyond in service to Montana residents.

Gianforte Continues 56 County Tour, Honors Veterans and Highlights Small Business

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte continued his annual 56 County Tour in Deer Lodge, Powell, and Granite counties on April 16, 2026. The governor presented a Veteran Commendation to U.S. Army veteran Specialist Kenneth Maynard, toured Western States Garage Door Supply, visited the SW Montana Veterans Food Pantry, and met with the Philipsburg Volunteer Fire Department. No regulatory actions, compliance obligations, or policy changes were announced.

Governor Gianforte SNAP Junk Food Restriction Waiver Submission

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte submitted a waiver request to USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins to restrict SNAP purchases to nutritious foods, limiting purchases of soft drinks, candy, and junk food. The proposed demonstration project targets approximately 20 percent of SNAP spending currently used on unhealthy items and aligns Montana with 22 other states. The waiver introduces restrictions on beverages exceeding 10 grams of sugar per 8 ounces and establishes a standardized definition for candy and prepared desserts.
