Spring Edition May 2025 From The Director

Spring is in the air after having a week of summer-like weather first. Crazy! I hope all of you are healthy and doing well. A big thank you to Carol Lawhun for being the chair for the last two years! She now hands the gavel down to Jayson Tysdal. The Commission is now being led by Jason as chair, and Josh Reisetter as vice-chair.

Reminder - It's the responsibility of the responsible broker to know the license status of the agents that are associated with their brokerage firm. Not Force only can the licensee be disciplined for engaging in the practice of real estate without an active license, but the responsible broker may face disciplinary action as well.

Another Reminder: Responsible brokers and property managers -- make sure you are reconciling your trust accounts monthly. It's very easy for the Commission compliance officers to determine that monthly reconciliations have not been performed, especially if the reconciliations have not included individual ledger totals.

It's never too soon to start working on your continuing education for those of you renewing this year.

Enjoy your spring and summer!

 2024 online renewal is still open for those that have not completed theirs. It will

close June 30, 2025.

 There are several licenses that have been placed inactive upon renewal due to

missing information. If you submitted renewal but have not received a renewed license, be sure it was completed. We may be missing continuing education, E/O insurance, or your firm association.

 The office will be emailing a reminder notice for renewal in the fall.  Always be sure we have your correct email listed. This is how we

communicate with most licensees.

 Firms that are up for renewal this year will receive a letter in the mail in the fall

which will contain the firm's specific username and password.

 Now would be a good time to verify that we have the correct mailing address

in our records.

DOJ Launches Anticompetitive Regulations Task Force, Eyes Impact on Housing and Licensing

(used with permission by ARELLO)

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched a new Anticompetitive Regulations Task Force aimed at identifying state and federal laws that create unnecessary barriers to free market competition. Housed within the Antitrust Division, the Task Force will focus on rolling back regulations that hinder small businesses, entrepreneurship, and consumer choice, with a particular emphasis on sectors like housing, transportation, and healthcare.

Assistant Attorney General Abigail Slater emphasized the initiative's goal: unwinding laws and regulations that restrict market entry or limit economic opportunity. Housing is a key area of interest. The DOJ has cited rising housing costs and regulatory burdens as factors making it harder for ordinary Americans to rent or buy homes. Occupational licensing, zoning, permitting, and development rules are all potential areas for review under this effort. The Task Force will solicit public input through a formal comment process, with submissions due by May 27, 2025 (Docket No. ATR-2025-0001 at regulations.gov). Comments are invited from consumers, small businesses, trade groups, and industry stakeholders on laws that disproportionately limit competition or inflate costs. Force The initiative builds on prior DOJ efforts to support deregulation where excessive rules were found to stifle competition. The Task Force will also collaborate with other agencies, submit amicus briefs in relevant litigation, and provide technical assistance to federal and state lawmakers reviewing competitive impacts of regulatory frameworks. ARELLO® will monitor the Task Force's work closely, particularly in areas where licensing laws intersect with affordability, mobility, or barriers to market participation. The focus, as outlined by DOJ leadership, is not deregulation for its own sake, but ensuring that competition (not outdated or protectionist regulation) drives innovation and consumer benefit across the economy.
