Affected customers in PSPS-designated areas should remain prepared for potential extended power outages, monitor weather conditions, and implement personal emergency plans. Share HONOLULU, July 7, 2025 – Due to the passing of hazardous weather conditions, Hawaiian Electric crews have begun inspections, which is part of the process of restoring power to customers in parts of Upcountry Maui affected by the Public Safety Power Shutoff program.
Before service can be restored, power lines and other utility equipment must first be inspected and any damage repaired. This involves ground crews and possible aerial inspections using helicopters and drones.
While conditions are improving, weather changes can happen at any time. Under its PSPS program, Hawaiian Electric may proactively shut off power in communities with high exposure to
wildfire risk during severe weather conditions. The company urges customers in these areas to remain vigilant, implement their own emergency plans and prepare for the possibility of extended power outages. Hawaiian Electric is coordinating these efforts closely with the Maui Emergency Management Agency.
