New License Exemption for Muralists, Know Your Rights Annual Notice Requirement

The California Contractors State License Board published its quarterly newsletter covering two regulatory developments effective January 1, 2026. First, SB 456 (Ashby) creates a contractor license exemption for muralists who create unique works of fine art, provided the mural is copyright or trademark protected and the artist has an agreement with an authorized approver. Second, the California Department of Industrial Relations is reminding employers of new Workplace Know Your Rights Act requirements mandating annual written notice to workers explaining their rights under California labor law.

CSLB Enforcement Committee Meeting April 29, Sacramento

The California Contractors State License Board Enforcement Committee will hold a public meeting on April 29, 2026 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in Sacramento. The agenda includes review of potential process changes to address an increase in consumer-filed complaints and discussion of available closing dispositions for complaints filed by the Underground Safety Board. CA Licensing Committee Meeting - April 30, 2026

The Contractors State License Board (CSLB) Licensing Committee has scheduled a public teleconference committee meeting for April 30, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The meeting will review B-2 Residential Remodeling Contractor pathways toward licensure as a General Building Contractor and discuss developing trade-specific licensing workshops.
