What changed
The USPTO issued patent US12595471B2 to BASF SE for amylase enzyme variants engineered for improved performance in detergent and industrial applications. The patent covers the genetically modified enzymes, compositions containing them, and methods of making and using them across multiple industry sectors.
For competitors in enzyme manufacturing, cleaning product formulation, food processing, and biofuels production, this patent establishes exclusive rights that may require freedom-to-operate analysis before developing similar products. The broad application scope spanning consumer cleaning to industrial ethanol production means multiple sectors should assess potential licensing or design-around strategies.
