What changed

A coordinated inspection operation conducted on April 9, 2026 in a southern Tenerife industrial zone resulted in the detention of a male warehouse owner for alleged public health crimes related to cannabis cultivation. Authorities seized 12 cannabis plants along with automated irrigation systems and grow lights. The inspection covered 9 establishments operating 10 companies, with 21 workers identified. An irregular worker was detected and serious occupational safety deficiencies were documented, with formal corrective requirements issued.

Employers in industrial and warehouse operations in the Canary Islands should note the ongoing coordinated enforcement between labor inspectors and police, which targets both employment violations and criminal activity. Companies should ensure compliance with occupational risk prevention requirements and verify the legal status of all workers to avoid triggering similar multi-agency operations.
