Summary

Kansas Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt announced that Kei'Anna Boykin, 31, of Geary County, was sentenced to 24 months of probation with 12 months of underlying prison time for felony insurance fraud. Boykin pleaded guilty on January 15, 2026, in Geary County District Court for falsely claiming no loss while her policy was canceled.

What changed

Kei'Anna Boykin was sentenced on March 19, 2026, for one felony count of insurance fraud after pleading guilty on January 15, 2026. She had been involved in a car accident while driving on a canceled insurance policy, then reinstated her policy and falsely claimed she had not had a loss during the cancellation period. The Kansas Department of Insurance investigated the case, which was prosecuted by the Kansas Attorney General's Office.

This is an individual enforcement action with no new obligations or compliance requirements for other entities. Insurance companies should note that the Kansas DOI actively investigates and prosecutes fraud cases, including situations where policyholders make false claims during lapse periods. The case demonstrates that the Department will pursue criminal penalties for fraud that increases costs for other policyholders.
