RALEIGH Mar 18, 2026 Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey released this statement today on the passing of his friend, former Representative Mike Clampitt:

“Mike Clampitt has been a true friend to me and the North Carolina Department of Insurance. He's been a strong, honorable leader. We were both elected in 2016 and have worked closely together ever since. He always took pride in service to others. Mike spent 27 years protecting his community as a firefighter and serving western North Carolina as a volunteer helping others. He represented the 119th District of Jackson, Swain, and Haywood counties.  He was passionate about helping the fire service and getting drunk drivers off the road.”
