New Hampshire Secures Federal Funding for WIC Benefits Through November
Summary
The State of New Hampshire has received additional federal funding to sustain WIC benefits and services through November 2025, mitigating disruptions caused by a federal government shutdown. This funding ensures continued access to food benefits, nutrition education, and other vital services for approximately 13,000 WIC participants.
What changed
The State of New Hampshire announced it has secured additional federal funding to continue the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) through at least the end of November 2025. This funding, secured through advocacy by Governor Kelly Ayotte with USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins, will prevent a pause in food benefits and services for approximately 13,000 WIC participants in the state, which had been anticipated due to a federal government shutdown. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will also ensure partial SNAP benefit payments are processed for November.
Regulated entities and program participants should be aware that WIC benefits and services will continue without interruption through November. DHHS is working to expedite SNAP payments. While this funding provides a temporary solution, the state continues to advocate for the federal government to reopen and provide stable funding for these critical programs. Compliance officers should monitor further updates from DHHS regarding SNAP payments and any potential long-term funding solutions.
What to do next
- Monitor DHHS updates regarding SNAP benefit processing.
- Ensure WIC participants are informed of continued benefit availability through November.

New Hampshire Secures Additional Funding to Sustain WIC Benefits and Services Through November
Concord, NH – The State of New Hampshire has received additional federal funding to sustain the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) during the federal government shutdown. By leveraging this new WIC funding and other existing federal funds, the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will support WIC families in continuing to receive food benefits and services at local agencies through at least the end of November.
Governor Kelly Ayotte spoke with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke Rollins to advocate for New Hampshire to receive this critical funding.
“I’m pleased we were able to secure critical WIC funding through the end of the month to help moms and children in our state access food, formula, and other important needs,” said Governor Kelly Ayotte. “I personally advocated for this funding with Secretary Rollins so we can help moms and children in need. My office and DHHS are monitoring the status of partial payments for SNAP benefits and will work to ensure those payments are sent to Granite Staters as quickly as possible. In the meantime, Washington must get the federal government open so we have no further disruption to programs that serve our most vulnerable.”
“DHHS remains committed to finding ways to keep WIC benefits and services available without interruption for as long as possible to help pregnant women, new mothers, and young children across the state,” said DHHS Commissioner Lori Weaver. “This additional funding will ensure New Hampshire WIC families have continued access to food benefits and the dedicated staff at local agencies who connect participants with vital WIC services and resources.”
In October, DHHS announced estimated pause dates for WIC food benefits and services at local agencies due to a lack of federal WIC funding. The new and redirected federal funding will extend those timelines, enabling 13,000 WIC participants in New Hampshire to continue receiving food benefits past the Thanksgiving holiday. DHHS support for WIC services at local agencies, including nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to community resources, will also continue through at least the end of November.
The USDA Food and Nutrition Service has also informed all states that partial funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will be available for November. DHHS is taking action to ensure SNAP recipients are able to access November funding as quickly as possible. Further updates will be shared as soon as they are available. Additionally, the State’s partnership with the New Hampshire Food Bank is in place, and food box pickup locations are open for SNAP recipients.
The Department will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available. For the latest updates on WIC and SNAP during the federal shutdown, please visit dhhs.nh.gov/federalshutdown.
