Patient-specific implant design and manufacturing system with surgical implant positioning manager
Summary
Carlsmed, Inc. received USPTO Patent Grant US12588951B2 for a patient-specific implant design and manufacturing system with surgical implant positioning management. The patent covers methods for receiving intra-operative data during surgery and comparing it against a pre-operative plan to verify implant positioning. The grant includes 23 claims covering the system, method, and positioning verification features.
What changed
Carlsmed, Inc. has been granted USPTO Patent US12588951B2 for a patient-specific surgical implant design and manufacturing system. The patent covers systems and methods including receiving intra-operative data during surgical procedures, comparing that data to pre-operative plans, and determining whether patient-specific implants are positioned according to the planned location. The 23 claims cover CPC classifications in surgical navigation (A61B), medical imaging (G06T), and health informatics (G16H).\n\nThis is a patent grant notice—entities manufacturing or using patient-specific implants should review for potential licensing or freedom-to-operate considerations if their technology overlaps with Carlsmed's claims. No immediate compliance action or deadlines are triggered by this patent grant.

Abstract
Systems and methods for designing and implementing patient-specific surgical procedures and/or medical devices are disclosed. In some embodiments, a method includes receiving intra-operative data during a surgical procedure to install a patient-specific implant in a patient. The system can compare the intra-operative data to a pre-operative plan to determine whether the implant is positioned and located according to the pre-operative plan.
