Failed Montana property tax rebate proposal

Montana Senate Bill 434, which proposed creating a property tax rebate program for principal residences based on taxes paid, failed to become law. The bill passed the Senate 50-0 on third reading but died in the House Taxation Committee on May 23, 2025. No property tax rebate program will be implemented under this proposal.

Increase Elderly Homeowner and Renter Income Tax Credit

Montana HB831 sought to increase the income tax credit for elderly homeowners and renters. The bill passed both chambers but was vetoed by Governor Gianforte on June 19, 2025. The veto override attempt failed in the legislature on July 23, 2025, resulting in the bill's failure to become law.
