Liberation Day Celebration on Albert Pier

With a full programme of activity starting with the traditional parade and running until late into the evening, this year's Liberation Day event in St Peter Port is designed to capture the atmosphere of a classic celebration, bringing together entertainment, history, food and local talent in a lively seafront setting.

The Albert Pier in St Peter Port will transform into a bustling hub of music, theatre, food and community spirit starting from 11am, and running through to 10:45pm.

Islanders can watch the livestream of the Town Church service on the big screen on the pier, before a diverse programme of local performances begins.

Programme highlights include scenes from the one-act play The Child's Fear by Façade Shows, based on a true story from the Occupation, alongside a wide range of music acts.

The musical line-up spans generations and styles, from a solo performance by Emily Fern to nostalgic 1940s sounds from the Bluebird Belles and Glenn Miller Sounds of the Elastic Band.

A range of food stalls will take over the Pier on Liberation Day, including community favourites such as hamburgers and pizza, to tastes of Thai, Jamaican and West African cuisine, alongside sweet treats and refreshments.

Islanders can also browse local craft and artisan stalls with handcrafted products, custom decor and a carnival tombola which will be lined along the seafront on the South Esplanade.

Deputy Andy Cameron, Vice-President and Liberation Day Lead for the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture, said:

"Albert Pier will be a real focal point this Liberation Day, with live music spanning everything from 1940s classics to some of our best contemporary local bands. It's particularly encouraging to see under-18 performers taking to the stage this year, including talent from the recent Battle of the Bands. With established acts like The Recks and Last of the Light Brigade closing the programme, alongside a great mix of food and craft stalls, it promises to be a vibrant, all-day celebration in St Peter Port."
