The Prison Governor, John De Carteret, has agreed to step aside on a temporary basis while an investigation into allegations which have been received regarding his conduct takes place.

Mr De Carteret's decision has been made with the agreement of the Committee for Home Affairs and the States Chief Executive & Head of the Public Service, Boley Smillie.

Interim management arrangements have been put in place, with Deputy Governor Tracey Mahy leading the prison for the time being.

Mr Smillie said:

"Matters will be investigated fully and fairly and no one should draw any conclusion from the Prison Governor's decision to temporarily step aside. I will provide an update once the investigation has concluded but will offer no further comment."
