What changed

HB26-1395 eliminates the Wildfire Resilient Homes Grant Program, which provided state grants to homeowners for making their homes more resilient to wildfire risk. The bill mandates the transfer of any remaining cash fund balance to the general fund by June 30, 2026, with the program repeal taking effect July 1, 2026.

Homeowners who were participating in or planning to apply for the Wildfire Resilient Homes Grant Program will no longer have access to this funding after the program ends. The program's administrators at the Department of Public Safety will cease grant operations. The transfer of remaining funds to the general fund removes dedicated funding for wildfire resilience improvements for homeowners.
