Public Warning: Unlicensed Engineering and Surveying Services on Freelance Platforms
The Oregon State Board of Examiners for Engineering and Land Surveying (OSBEELS) has issued a public warning about an increase in complaints regarding individuals advertising unlicensed professional engineering and land surveying services on gig and freelance websites. The Board cautions that consumers may receive fraudulent credentials, invalid plans or reports, and suffer financial loss when hiring unqualified persons. The Board advises using the OSBEELS License Search to verify credentials and reporting suspected unlicensed practice.
Right of Entry Notice Requirements for Land Surveyors, OR
The Oregon State Board of Examiners for Engineers and Land Surveying issued updated guidance clarifying notice requirements under ORS 672.047 for land surveyors entering private property. The guidance addresses common compliance complaints and specifies that verbal notice is insufficient; written notice must include the surveyor's name, business address, telephone number, purpose of entry, expected dates, map availability, and any monuments to be placed. For mailed notices, at least seven days advance notice is required.
